At 28 years old, Suleman Hamid has firmly established himself as a household name in Ethiopian football. Born in October 1997, the right-back has worked his way through the local league to become a pivotal figure for both his club and the national team. Currently representing CBE, Hamid continues to showcase impressive consistency in defense while providing a constant threat with his overlapping runs down the right flank.

Climbing the ranks of the Premier League

Hamid’s journey began with Adama City, where his raw potential first caught the eye of scouts across the country. November 2020 marked a turning point in his career when he moved to Hadiya Hossana. His rapid development didn’t stop there; just nine months later, the defender took another massive leap by signing with Saint George, one of the nation’s most prestigious giants. This move solidified his reputation as one of the most reliable wing-backs in the Ethiopian top flight.

A mainstay for the national team

Suleman Hamid made his international debut for Ethiopia in an action-packed friendly against Zambia in late 2020, which ended in a narrow 3-2 defeat. Despite the result, his performance earned him a regular spot in the squad. The highlight of his international career so far was competing in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. Testing himself against the continent’s elite allowed him to gain invaluable experience on the grandest stage of African football.
