Yared Bayeh – stats and career

In the world of African football, some players don’t need the bright lights of Europe to achieve legendary status. Yared Bayeh is a perfect example of this. The 30-year-old center-back has transformed into a symbol of reliability and leadership within the Ethiopian Premier League. Standing at 182 cm with remarkable composure, he remains a vital figure for both his current club, Sidama Bunna, and the national team of his homeland.

The Fasil Kenema era and the taste of glory

Bayeh’s professional journey began at Dashen Beer, but his most significant rise is tied to Fasil Kenema. His tenure there spanned six seasons and is etched into the club’s history in golden letters. Yared was far more than a regular starter; he was the captain who guided the squad to their first historic league title in 2021. Under his leadership, Fasil Kenema also secured the Ethiopian Cup and the Super Cup, establishing themselves as the dominant force in the country. His tactical intelligence and dominance in the air made him a constant nightmare for league strikers.

A heartfelt homecoming and new horizons

In 2022, Yared followed his heart back to his birthplace of Bahir Dar. Representing the local Bahir Dar Kenema in front of his own community was an honor he treated with immense responsibility. During those two years, he didn’t just anchor the defense; he also displayed a surprising scoring touch during set-piece situations, netting six goals in total. This period of personal significance strengthened his connection with the fans before he moved on to Sidama Bunna in 2024. He adapted to his new surroundings with ease, and by January 2026, he is already in peak form, having scored three goals in the opening matches of the current campaign.

National pride and a test of character

His journey with the Ethiopia national team has been a rollercoaster that truly tested his resolve. After debuting at the age of 20, he has gone on to earn over 50 caps. The most defining moment of his international career came during the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite being sent off in the opening minutes of the tournament against Cape Verde, Yared showed incredible mental strength. He returned for the following match against Burkina Faso to deliver a defensive masterclass, helping his team secure a hard-fought point. This resilience defines Yared Bayeh—a player who might face setbacks but always finds the strength to rise and lead.
